ONE ON ONE STREET DRAGS COMING TO MADISON INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

Something new is coming to Madison International Speedway in 2016 in the form of Thursday Night Street Drags featuring one on one racing action on a 300 foot track on the front stretch. This will allow just about anyone to come out to the track and see who has the fastest car, truck, van, or motorcyle.

Five exciting events are on the schedule starting with the opener on Thursday, May 19th and continuing monthly on June 9th, July 14th, August 18th, and September 15th. Pit gates will open at 6:00 with practice and “grudge” runs at 6:30 followed by bracket racing starting at 7:30.

These events will be structured after the highly successful program at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wisconsin. The idea is to give drivers of all ages an opportunity to do battle in a one on one street drag in a safe, controlled setting.

Plans are for at least twelve different brackets with the goal being to put similar style and powered cars/ trucks/etc. together. This will assure better racing and is a lot more fun for the competitors and fans and increases everyone’s chance at winning.

There will be many opportunities for each entrant to race during the night. In the “Grudge” racing, a driver can race as many times as time permits. Grudge racing means drivers can race against their friends, or whomever…advantages (“handicapping” – in car lengths) are given, if you so choose.

For the “Bracket” racing, each car will typically need to lose twice in order to be eliminated. The number of cars will determine the “elimination” number. Drivers will also have the chance to “Buy Back” into their bracket. With a “Buy Back” a car may continue to compete until they lose (single elimination). To assist in keeping everything organized, each and every vehicle that goes onto the track at all times must have a bracket registration sticker. Cars may compete in more than one division with some restrictions applying.

Drivers must be at least sixteen years old to be eligible to enter with those under 18 requiring a parental waiver. Helmets are not mandatory for cars or trucks but are required for motorcycles. Working seat belts are required for cars and trucks. More information is available at http://misracing.com/street-drags/.

The goal for the one on one street drags is quite simple: To have fun. And for those who want to have fun and not take things too seriously, this is your opportunity.

Weekly racing action on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile and the Ring of Fire begins on Friday, May 13th and features NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models, Sportsman, and Bandits along with many visiting divisions. The ARCA Midwest Tour and the Joe Shear Classic will open the season on Sunday, May 1st.

Madison International Speedway is located two miles east of Oregon just south of Highway 138 on Sunrise Road. For more information checkout the track website at misracing.com or contact the track office at 608.835.9700.
