Officials from Madison International Speedway and Montgomery Ward have announced that the catalog and online retailer will serve as title sponsor for the 2016 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race event at Madison International Speedway (MIS) Father’s Day weekend in Oregon, Wisconsin.
The “Montgomery Ward 200”, coming Sunday, June 19, marks the return of the ARCA Racing Series after a one year absence. The race is scheduled for live broadcast on the American Sports Network (ASN).
“We are excited for Madison International Speedway to again be a part of the ARCA racing series presented by Menards in 2016,” commented Madison International Speedway Owner/Promoter Gregg McKarns. “Swiss Colony and Montgomery Ward have supported racing in Wisconsin for years, and they have stepped up to help us bring the ARCA Series back to MIS.”
For more than 140 years, "Montgomery Ward" has been a well-known and trusted catalog brand. In 2008 the "Montgomery Ward" brand was acquired by a subsidiary of The Swiss Colony, Inc. (now known as Colony Brands, Inc.), a family-owned direct-mail business that strives to continue the heritage, traditions and values of the brand that were inspired by the founder, Aaron Montgomery Ward. Today, Montgomery Ward offers one-stop shopping for quality items at affordable prices—and quick, convenient delivery.
“Montgomery Ward is excited to sponsor the return of the ARCA series to Madison International Speedway on June 19. We hope many of the Dads in the area will take the day off and bring the family out to enjoy the excitement on the track this Father’s Day,” said Russ Davis, Montgomery Ward Brand Director.
The Montgomery Ward 200 marks the eighth ARCA appearance at the renowned short track since its debut there in 1970. Former ARCA winners at MIS include Ramo Stott, Tom Bowsher, Bruce Gould, Alex Bowman, Chris Buescher, Kyle Benjamin and most recently Justin Boston in 2014.
“The track has a history of producing great, exciting racing and the ARCA Racing Series event on Father’s Day has a legitimate opportunity to create a new tradition,” said ARCA President Ron Drager. “People associated with our series look forward to returning to Wisconsin.”
ARCA’s appearance in the Badger State is also important for the series and its presenting sponsor, Menards. Eau Claire, Wis. is home to Menards corporate offices, about three hours northwest of Madison.
The on-track activities at Madison International Speedway will include two practice sessions Saturday, June 18 from 12:30 – 1:15 p.m. and from 1:45 – 2:30 p.m. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell follows Saturday afternoon at 4:00. Pre-race ceremonies and driver introductions get underway Sunday afternoon at 1:30 with the Montgomery Ward 200 scheduled to start at approximately 2:00.
In addition to live coverage on ASN, arcaracing.com will feature live timing and scoring and live chat of all on-track activities.
