Day two of the 47th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway had a familiar face in victory lane as Dan Fredrickson became the first three time winner of the Dick Trickle 99 presented by JE Pistons.
Tommy Pecaro won the Midwest Truck Series feature while Conrad Jorgenson took the checkers in the Great Northern Sportsmen Series.
Fredrickson’s victory in the first segment followed by two eighth place finishes in the second and third segments was enough for him to win the three segment event over Griffin McGrath and Nick Barstad.
Andy Jones took the lead from Dan Fredrickson at the start of segment one. Jones pulled away while Fredrickson battled with Majeski for the second spot. Majeski would get by Fredrickson for second on lap five. Three laps later Majeski would fly past Jones for the lead. Fredrickson would get by Jones for the second spot on lap 18. Majeski would easily win the first segment followed by Fredrickson, Jones, Chris Weinkauf and Griffin McGrath.
Following the race, Majeski failed post-race inspection and would finish last and start at the tail of the field for the second segment. After the draw, the top 12 were inverted for segment two.
Segment two had a spirited battle between Cole Anderson and Johnny Sauter as the two swapped the lead back and forth throughout the 33 laps. After an Austin Nason spin on lap 25, Anderson was able to get the lead on the restart from Sauter. Sauter tried lap after lap to get by on the inside of Anderson, but Anderson’s car got a good run off the corners all the way to the checkered flag. Majeski came from his 24th starting spot to finish third.
The final segment had the fans eyes looking all over the track watching to who would finish where on the track. Up front, Majeski took the lead from Derek Kraus on lap two and would easily drive to win the final segment. Behind him, the eyes were on Fredrickson, Griffin McGrath and Nick Barstad. At one point during the segment, each of them had the overall lead.
When the checkers flew, Fredrickson’s eighth place finish was enough for him to secure his third Dick Trickle 99 presented by JE Pistons victory. McGrath finished fifth in the segment to finish second overall and Barstad’s ninth place finish gave him third place.
Six drivers made the main event from last chance races. Dalton Zehr and Jeremy Lepak from the first race. Ryan Hinner and Travis Kvapil from the second qualifier race. Colin Reffner and Dennis Prunty advance from the final qualifier race.
Dan Lensing took the lead from Chad Walen on lap five and would go on to win the 30-lap “Stubby” Feature for the cars that didn’t make the field for the Dick Trickle 99. Reagan May was third with Michael Sauter in fourth. Jerry Brickner rounded out the top five.
Corey Jankowski held off a late charge from Bradley Tilton to win the 25-lap C-Main feature.
It was an incredible finish to the Midwest Truck Series 35-lap feature. On the final lap, Jeremy Lepak was leading Tommy Pecaro going into turn one. As the two went into turn three, Pecaro got to the inside of Lepak and two dragged race to the finish line. The two touched going down the front stretch causing Pecaro to go sideways across the line as the winner by 0.182 seconds. Pecaro then made hard contact with the wall and walked to victory lane. Rick Corso was third with Danielle Behn in fourth. Dave Edwards rounds out the top five.
Kyle Rhoades and Nick Egan won the Midwest Truck Series heat races.
Conrad Jorgenson drove away to a big win in the Great Northern Sportsmen Series 25-lap feature. Jorgenson took over the lead from Jason Thoma on lap nine and drove away from the competition. Behind him Nick Clements and Brent Kane battled for the runner-up spot with Clements getting second over Kane. Dan Gilster was fourth with Rick Schermerhorn rounding out the top five.
Jorgenson also won the odd dash and Dan Gilster won the even dash. Brent Kane and Dylan Sellner won the Grand National Sportsmen Series qualifier races. Eric Campbell won the last chance race.
Dave Trute is the 2016 Great Northern Sportsman Series Champion.
