CHECKING IN WITH TUNDRA TRAVELERS

The long break between TUNDRA Super Late Model Series Krolls West Round One at WIR and Round Two Powered by Wisconsin Potatoes at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway is almost over. Since Steve Apel captured the win in Round One, the travelers of the series have stayed busy. Here is what they’ve been up to…

Dalton Zehr

The two-time TUNDRA Champion is busy once again. Zehr has competed in the Midwest Tour picking up Fourth, Third, and Eighth Place finishes recently. Aside from that Zehr also captured a win in the Wisconsin Challenge Series race at State Park Speedway and a win at Norway Speedway.

Colin Reffner

TUNDRA’s leading rookie has made two appearances at Golden Sands since Round One at WIR. He grabbed Eighth Place finishes in both races.

John Beale

Since Round One, Beale may have put on the most miles of any TUNDRA Traveler. Beale made the trip to Bristol for the Short Track U.S. Nationals. He finished 19th in the 39-car field. Beale also took a Fifth Place finish in the first round of the Madison International Speedway Triple Crown and a 14th Place finish in the Midwest Tour race at Gateway International.

Grant Griesbach

The high schooler has been performing very well at Slinger Speedway on Sunday nights. Griesbach has recorded four Top Ten finishes in the last five weeks. He currently sits Eighth in Super Late Model standings at Slinger, but is only 14 points out of Fifth.

Brent Strelka

While his teammate for the TUNDRA season prepares for his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut (Ty Majeski, in case you didn’t know…) Strelka continues to perform well at WIR on Thursday nights. Strelka is a consistent threat to make the dash and currently sits Ninth in Super Late Model standings.

Jordan Thiel

Thiel recorded a season-best finish of Third at Golden Sands Speedway in their last event on June 9. The 2 car has had fantastic qualifying efforts this season, but has been bitten by bad luck on more than one occasion. He will be competing this Saturday in the Wisconsin Challenge Series race at Dells Raceway Park.

Wyatt Brooks

Brooks picked up his first ever Super Late Model feature win at Golden Sands on June 9. Brooks and his teammate Thiel paced the feature field through the majority of the race. The win put Brooks Second in Super Late Model standings behind Mike Lichtfeld.

Mike Lichtfeld

The Cuatro Cuatro has had a solid start to the 2017 season. Although he struggled in Round One, Lichtfeld has found success at Golden Sands and State Park Speedway. Lichtfeld recorded Second Place finishes at GSS in the Trickle Memorial and on June 9. He won the feature in State Park’s opener and is the current point leader at the quarter-mile.

Justin Mondiek

The Kulwicki Driver Development Program racer had a wild ride at Gateway last weekend when he clipped the car of Jim Sauter Jr. and barrel rolled. Thankfully, Mondiek was unharmed. Mondiek has been competing with the Midwest Tour as well as at State Park and Golden Sands.

Jordan DeVoy

DeVoy has been competing as both a Late Model and Super Late Model since Round One. He picked up a feature win on May 21, has set fast time as a Late Model at Slinger and recently joined the Super Late Model class. This past Sunday DeVoy secured a Seventh Place finish in his SLM debut at the facility.

Braison Bennett

Last year’s Dean’s Satellite Security Rookie of the Year is also keeping himself busy representing the Kulwicki Driver Development Program. Competing at both WIR and Slinger as a Late Model, Bennett has found some success. Although he hasn’t picked up a feature win yet this year, Bennett is the point leader at WIR. Bennett competed as a Super Late Model this past weekend at Slinger and finished 12th.

TUNDRA Super Late Model Series Round Two Powered by Wisconsin Potatoes takes place next Friday, June 30 at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wis. TUNDRA will be joined by the Midwest Truck Series, and UMA/Midwest Modifieds. Qualifying begins and fan gates open at 6 P.M. Racing begins at 7:30.
