TUNDRA IS HOMEWARD BOUND FOR THE 2017 FINALE

The birthplace of the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series – Dells Raceway Park – will play host to the season finale this Sunday in Round Six Powered by Wisconsin Potatoes.

Once again there will be bonus money on the line as the Country Plumber has kicked some extra change into the purse. The winner will receive a $500 bonus. There are additional $100 bonuses and a $50 bonus for the halfway leader courtesy of Central Door Solutions.

Dalton Zehr, John Beale, and Cole Anderson enter the event chasing the TUNDRA title. Zehr holds a 39-point edge as he hopes to claim his third Championship in the series’ seven-year history. Beale will have the opportunity to become the first to capture the Dean’s Satellite and Security Rookie of the Year title and the overall crown. Anderson could become the youngest series Champion and the second from the state of Minnesota.

To make up the deficit (Beale at 39 and Anderson at 46), the contenders will need some help. Thankfully for them, there are some potential spoilers in the field among both the series travelers and visitors.

Among the most notable outsiders are former TUNDRA Travelers. Jeff Storm is a past Alive For Five (the precursor to the TUNDRA series) winner at DRP. He also enjoyed a Third Place finish in the 2011 points. Bobby Kendall set multiple fast times when the TUNDRA series was in its infancy at Dells Raceway Park. He also scored several Top Five finishes at his home track. Josh “JJ” Wallace will also make his return to the series driving his father (Jamie)’s familiar number 87. Fresh off his reappearance with the series at Golden Sands, Mike Egan again will make his return to DRP.

Two young guns could be ones to watch on Sunday, as well. Collin Slife comes in with plenty of momentum from his fast time and Fifth Place finish in the TUNDRA event at Golden Sands. Last year’s Kulwicki Cup Champion Alex Prunty will also return to TUNDRA action. Prunty scored a podium finish with the series at DRP in 2015. He was heavily in the hunt for the Slinger Speedway Championship this season.

Among the TUNDRA Travelers to watch on Sunday will be (possibly) two newly crowned Champions. Andy Monday, having secured the Fox River Racing Club (Wisconsin International Raceway) Thursday Night title, tags in for Brandon Selle. Monday joined the Alive For Five and scored a Top Five finish in 2011 at DRP. Either most recent TUNDRA winner Mike Lichtfeld or Jordan Thiel (coming off his first ever SLM win at Golden Sands) could be carrying the Golden Sands Championship into Sunday. Lichtfeld leads the points over Mark Eswein with Thiel still alive in Third. That title will be determined Friday night.

Several drivers are also in line to make their TUNDRA debuts. Weekly Dells Raceway Park Late Model racer Todd Stenson, multiple-time Norway Speedway feature winner Joey Pontbriand, and DRP competitor Keith Tolf are expected to join the field.

TUNDRA will be joined by the Midwest Truck Series and Sportsman division. Fan gates open at Noon on Sunday, qualifying is scheduled for 1 P.M., and racing begins at 2 P.M.

Dells Raceway Park is located at N1070 Smith Road just north of downtown Wisconsin Dells of highway 16. For more information visit www.dellsracewaypark.com
